May be found crawling on the ground in wet weather (Hubricht 1985).
Pallifera dorsalis.
External: Gray to brown-gray body with fine dark mottling; tentacles dark gray-blue; foot fringe red-brown (Hubricht 1953).
Internal: Jaw yellow to brown with 6-9 ribs; penis about 1/3 body length; two simple longitudinal channels in penis; spermatheca rounded; spermatheca duct very wide (>penis width) for basal 2/3, and narrows greatly towards spermatheca; vagina wide at base with apparent, but empty, sac; very short atrium (Hubricht 1953).
Like P. dorsalis but larger and with stronger body patterning, while P. dorsalis has a longer atrium and 4 internal channels in penis (Hubricht 1953).
To 65 mm long extended (Hubricht 1953).
Appalachian Mts. of Virginia, especially near Shenandoah National Park (Hubricht 1953, 1985).
Upland forests (Hubricht 1985).
Usually or entirely outcross rather than self-fertilize (in the populations studied) (Anderson & McCracken 1986).
