Limacus maculatus (Kaleniczenko, 1851)
External: Mantle <1/3 body length; light green-gray body with yellow spots, dark mottling, and no stripes; paler on lower sides; gray spots on mantle; gray head and tentacles; fine concentric wrinkles on mantle; short keel; yellow-white sole; yellow to clear body mucus and clear sole mucus (Kerney & Cameron 1979; Schütt 2010).
Internal: Short, simple, curved penis with no internal stimulator; spermatheca connects to penis; rectal caecum present (Kerney & Cameron 1979; Wiktor et al. 2000; Schütt 2010).
Similar to Limacus flavus but darker and greener (Kerney & Cameron 1979).
70-130 mm long extended (Kerney & Cameron 1979).
Native to the Black Sea coast and mountains of Transcaucasia (Turkey to Azerbaijan and NW Iran). Also found in the British Isles, Canary Ids., and gardens and greenhouses in Russian and Ukrainian cities (Kerney & Cameron 1979; Wiktor et al. 2000; Sysoev & Schileyko 2009; Schütt 2010).
Not synanthropic; prefers undisturbed forests; under stones in fields and under dead trees (Kerney & Cameron 1979; Schütt 2010).
Feeds on fungi, lichen, dead plants (Schütt 2010).
