50 mm long, alive (Simone 2006); big, to 60 mm long (Stanisic et al. 2010).
Native to: Antilles, Belize, Brazil (Para to Rio Grande do Sul), Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico (states of San Luis Potosi, Veracruz, and Yucatan), Nicaragua, Panama, Venezuela (Andrews & Dundee 1987; Thomé 1989; Simone 2006; Thomé, Santos & Pedott, 1997 in Thompson 2008; Naranjo-García et al 2007).
Non-native in: Florida, Texas, the West Indies, Asia and Africa (Thomé, Santos & Pedott, 1997 in Thompson 2008); Australia (Queensland, NSW, N Territory), Fiji, Hawaii, Indonesia, Marianas, New Caledonia, Philippines, Solomon Ids, Tahiti, Tuamotu, Vanuatu, Western Samoa (Gomes & Thomé 2004).
Type locality: New Caledonia (in Melanesia, S Pacific) (Thomé 1989).
Agricultural lands, disturbed habitat, urban areas (Beesley et al. 1998); includes 800 m, 1400 m altitude (Thomé 1994); under rocks and logs, in grass clumps and cracks in the ground (Beesley et al. 1998).
Omnivore (Beesley et al. 1998).
Populous pests in agriculture, gardens, and urban settings (sources in Cowie et al. 2009 and Naranjo-García et al 2007). Pest on beans (Stanisic et al. 2010).
