Diplosolenodes occidentalis (Guilding, 1825)
Common slug with a wide distribution including S America (Thomé 1989).
External: Light brown notum and hyponotum; raised dark brown granulations on skin; usually a light longitudinal stripe on the mid-dorsum; very short red-brown lower tentacles; black spots on hyponotum (Burch & Van Devender, 1980).
Internal: Long, cylindrical, symmetrical verge; verge with papillae and reflected glans on its apex; canalis junctor attaches to apex of spermatheca (Burch & Van Devender, 1980); wide vas deferens; long, twisted canalis junctor; ovate, tapering spermatheca with a short, thick stalk; penial gland with elongate-conic papilla and 16 long tubules with bases enclosed in sheath (Baker 1925).
To 65 mm long, 20 mm wide, sole 7 mm wide, female opening 34 mm from anterior end and 3.8 mm from sole (Baker 1925). .
Native in: Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, El Salvador, Guayana, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela (Thomé et al. 1997).
Invasive in: Hawaii, Bahamas (Thomé et al. 1997); Saint Vincent, Barbados, Costa Rica, Panama, Puero Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Nicaragua, Jamaica (Thomé 1989); Texas (Dundee 1974 in Burch & Van Devender, 1980).
Type Locality: St. Vincent (Burch & Van Devender, 1980).
